Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion

At Martinrea, one of our foundational beliefs is the Golden Rule, which means treating every person the way we would want to be treated, with dignity and respect. We believe diversity and inclusion is critical to our company’s success as it values people and helps to ensure a wide range of perspectives, backgrounds, skills, and experiences. We believe opportunity must be provided equally to all. We stand with our people protecting fundamental human rights and encourage positive change in our society.

our commitment to DEI

Diversity is ingrained in our culture through our Golden Rule, which is why Martinrea’s DEI Committee works to promote and advance DEI goals and initiatives across the company. Made up of a motivated group of team members, each of our subcommittees are dedicated to fostering a more diverse and inclusive workplace and ensuring employees feel valued and respected. A DEI steering committee led by our President and CEO, and comprised of various key functional groups, oversees the subcommittees to help ensure DEI is embedded in our culture and progress is made in related initiatives. Several members of our diversity committee are involved with external DEI organizations or councils like CADIA, OESA Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Council, and AWAF. Some members have also participated in training to stay up to date with DEI and implement best practices at the company.

Our subcommittees:

  • Awareness and Engagement – Increase visibility and engagement related to diversity and inclusion through both internal and external initiatives and events. This subcommittee is proud to feature our diverse team on social media; attend, sponsor and speak at DEI conferences; and share information as well as celebrate DEI related events in our global locations.
  • Opportunities in Manufacturing – Oversees activities and events to encourage diverse groups to consider a career in manufacturing. This group has successfully hosted trade awareness events, with plant tours, for schools and universities; provided programs for women to consider advancement in manufacturing roles; and hosted a mentoring program.
  • Training and Education – Deliver training that helps employees become more aware of diversity issues in the workplace and provide skills to help employees interact, collaborate and work more closely with people that have different qualities than their own. This team has provided information and training on DEI; developed quarterly educational articles, shared with all employees; and implemented diversity messaging to be available on all company laptops.
  • Compliance – Helps to ensure the company is in line with all regulations and legal needs related to diversity, equity and inclusion. This subcommittee has developed and distributed our diversity policy; assisted other subcommittees with establishing metrics and KPIs; and supports our internal audit.

“Our global family of diverse team members brings a broader footprint to Martinrea, working together in a culture holding similar values and beliefs. As a company, we strive to impact this world for the better and focus on our people, because our strength is truly in our people.”

employee resource groups

To support our DEI goals, Martinrea has several voluntary, employee-led Employee Resource Groups (ERGs) to help foster a sense of community and provide support for members based on shared characteristics or experiences. Our ERGs offer opportunities for professional development, networking, and advocacy, bringing diversity and inclusion initiatives to the forefront.

The goal of our MindsMatter group is to increase awareness of mental health, reducing the stigma, and giving Martinrea employees the opportunity to support one another. MindsMatter provides training and education on mental health, shares important information and resources with team members, and supports internal and external events relating to mental health causes.
